This island is known for its natural beauty and stunning landscapes, on this walk you will see why.

Sami and Antisamos Beach are located on the east side of Kefalonia, close to the Walnut Tree Villa. The walk from Sami to Antisamos Beach is a moderately challenging route, covering a distance of about 3.5 km (approximately 2.2 miles), taking about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on your pace and essential photo stops along the way.

Before setting off its worth noting that UNESCO has designated the Kefalonia/Ithaca area as a GEOPARK.  This signifies a rich cultural heritage with important geodiversity and biodiversity.   You can access many walks with the aid of the Geopark Network (accessible on your mobile), explaining the area and its geological make up. Or via this map which is highly recommended as a backup

The Route:

Starting Point: Begin your walk from the town of Sami. Sami is a picturesque coastal village with a small harbor, shops, and restaurants.

  • The Trail: Starts just behind the high Street and is indicated by this route map which also hosts helpful emergency numbers. As you leave Sami turn left, follow the signs and the blue and white path markers to Antisamos Beach. The path is well-defined and maintained; you’ll be walking through a combination of woods, tracks, grassy knolls and dirt paths. The terrain is moderate, with some gentle hills and a couple of steeper sections, but nothing too strenuous. The route takes you through lush vegetation, including olive and cypress trees, with frequent views of the Ionian Sea and a multitude of wildlife.
  • Scenic Views: Along the way, you’ll get awesome glimpses of the surrounding mountains and valleys, offering a mix of green landscapes, huge blue skies and sea views.

Antisamos Beach:

  • Arrival: As you approach Antisamos Beach, you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of the turquoise waters. The beach itself is known for its crystal-clear water and pebbly shore, surrounded by lush hillsides.
  • Facilities: Antisamos Beach has several amenities, including sunbeds, umbrellas, and a beach bar where you can relax and enjoy refreshments.

Perfect Temperature and Spring Flowers:

  • Temperature: The ideal temperature for this walk is in the spring, typically from April to June, when the weather is warm but not too hot. During this time, temperatures range from about 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F), providing a comfortable climate for walking.
  • Spring Flowers: In spring, the landscape is adorned with a variety of colorful flowers. You’ll see wildflowers like poppies, daisies, and anemones along the trail. The hillsides and fields burst with greenery, and the combination of blooming flowers and lush vegetation creates a vibrant and picturesque setting.

To add a few extra kilometers each way why not walk from the villa to start the route, you will barely walk on a road, keeping to tracks and the seafront.
